“4 glasses. The Wild Oats wine range is named after the string of boats owned by passionate yachtsman Bob Oatley and this red from the Spanish-origin tempranillo variety is a new addition to the portfolio. It is sourced from the King Valley in north-east Victoria and is brick red, with plum and balsamic scents. Zingy black cherry flavour features on the front of the palate and licorice, raspberry and spearmint fruit elements combine with savoury oak on the middle palate. Dusty tannins come into play at the finish.”

“There are few wines better suited to the Australian lifestyle than the Spanish varietal tempranillo. This fruit-driven number from the King Valley in Victoria is soft, smooth and terrifically easy to drink. It can even be chilled a little on hot summer days. It's a bright, cheerful wine with oak playing an almost subliminal role and it would be great with a barbecue, or with pasta and pizza dishes. A wine for enjoying rather than analysing. Terrific value at $18.”
